Nokia’s Ovi Maps Racing now available

ovi-maps-racingSince it looks like GT5’s still another decade or two away from release, racing gamers need everything they can to survive the wait, and this is just about the most creative way we’ve seen to do that.

At a glance, Nokia’s Ovi Maps Racing looks like a pretty simple, standard 2D racer with an overhead view, but its secret sauce lies in the map: it can turn pretty much any street in the world into a racecourse.

The game lets you chart out your heated battle using nothing more than Ovi Maps data and your finger, meaning Manhattan, Prague, or your folks’ quiet, peaceful neighborhood are all potential targets for your high-speed bedlam.

Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition for the lost

For the ones who keep getting lost and love to enjoy music while doing so, Nokia is bringing the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition. The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition cannot be exactly called as the successor of the Nokia 5800 XpresMusic, but it definitely is an upgraded variant of the same.

The Navigation Edition comes bundled with a lifetime Drive and Walk navigation license, a car stand and a car charger for converting the your phone into a fully functional GPS device. The navigation license will be valid only for the region of purchase. The phone would come equipped with the latest version of the Ovi Maps and a new Chrome and Black color styling.

The Navigation Edition would be available in three different types, dependent mostly on the availability of the type of networks in the area. While all three would be Quad-band GSM phones, only two of them would be available with WLAN and dual-band 3G with HSDPA.

The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition is expected to roll out in Q4 and would be available for 285 Euro before any subsidies or taxes. Hit the jump for the promotional video of 5800 Navigation Edition. [Source]

Nokia surprises with a ‘mini laptop’ aka Netbook

Just days after we digested the Nokia N900 that was considered to be its portable internet tablet, here comes Nokia’s official netbook entry. Rumors of a Nokia netbook were going around since long, but we didn’t expect it to come out with something full fledged so soon. Booklet 3G as they term it, this mini laptop looks a little more empowered than your regular netbook and has a 10.1″ display and Windows OS (rumored to be Windows 7). Nokia has just released a teaser (video below) for us to drool over without revealing specifications in particular. However the device looks good, full featured (yeah HDMI, GPS, 3G etc) and compact enough. Loads of Nokia customizations / integration can also be expected.

The most exciting part such as the pricing and availability isn’t revealed, it might well hit the streets sometime in October-December to encash the holiday season along with the Windows 7 official launch. This is one netbook that I would certainly consider, but only if it can match the pricing. Something below $500 would be great!.
