VOIP Over 3G Coming To iPhone

Iphone Skype

It would appear that the forecast in Hell is cold and snowy. AT&T announced yesterday that they have officially decided to allow VOIP applications on the iPhone which use their 3G network. Yes, you did in fact read that correctly. You’ll be able to use a service such as Skype to make phone calls which don’t actually count towards your minutes. (more…)

Qlocktwo is a not round, no hands clock

qlocktwoWhen it comes to talking about a wall clock, some of the more “normal” features that would be mentioned include: its shape (round), display (in numbers), display method (the clock hands) and of course, the actual time. The Qlocktwo has all these features but with snazzy differences.

The out of the box-designed Qlocktwo is a stylishly square wall clock designed by Biegert & Funk. (more…)

Microsoft “Windows Phones” Launching in October

WindowsWASHINGTON — Microsoft, seeking to tap into the rapidly growing smartphone market, announced on Tuesday that new cellphones coming in October will feature an upgraded mobile operating system.

The Redmond, Washington-based software giant said mobile phones from its handset partners hitting stores on October 6 will be the first to feature Windows Mobile 6.5, the latest version of its mobile phone software.

The new phones, to be branded as “Windows Phones,” will feature a redesigned Web browser and a free service called “My Phone,” which allows users to back up contacts, messages and photos on a personal computer or the Internet.

Microsoft also announced plans to launch an online applications store — Windows Marketplace for Mobile — like Apple’s popular App Store for the iPhone or Research in Motion’s recently unveiled Blackberry App World.

It said a “wide variety” of applications will be available for the devices to be offered by hardware manufacturers in North America, Europe, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region. (more…)

Can Smart Phones, Netbooks Save WiBro?

090830_p16_smart

The new generation of portable Internet devices such as netbooks, smart phones and car navigation systems seem to be injecting new life into the faltering wireless technology, WiBro.

WiBro, South Korea’s own portable Internet standard, has so far been a disappointment. It remains to be seen whether the growing popularity of mobile Internet devices such as “smart” phones and “netbooks” will be enough to inject new energy into the faltering wireless technology.

WiBro, short for “wireless broadband,” is the local variant of mobile WiMAX, which is competing with Long Term Evolution (LTE) in the standard wars for fourth-generation (4G) communications.

In promoting WiBro, Korea intended to drive the standard and enable local companies to benefit from homegrown intellectual property. However, telecommunications giants KT and SK Telecom, the country’s two WiBro operators, have managed to gather just 220,000 customers combined since starting services in 2005. This makes a mockery of government predictions that had 1.4 million subscribers and 290 billion won in sales by 2008. (more…)

T-mobile Smartly Selling Unlocked iPhones in UK

Like AT&T in USA, O2 has an exclusive deal with Apple to sell iPhone’s. But recently T-mobile has started offering the iPhones to its customers. But these is a catch (as always).

T-mobile UK is offering only 150 iPhone 3G every week. The iPhone’s would be available only to the unhappy customers of T-mobile who threaten to leave the service. Believe me, T-mobile would have to go through lots of threatening now on. If not Apple, O2 surely would be concerned by this action of T-mobile. But in terms of legality T-mobile cannot be stopped. The company is reselling the unlocked iPhone’s which is not a crime. Also the phones are sold to existing customers only which means no SIM card along with the sale.

Smart move from T-mobile. Time for you to get smarter and start threatening to leave T-mobile i.e. if you are a customer of T-mobile in UK.

T-Mobile UK Bulk Buying iPhones Across Europe?

There are reports that Mobile phone operator T-Mobile is stepping up efforts to buy large quantities of SIM free iPhones across Europe to convince customers who threaten to leave for O2 to stay. The Telegraph wrote on Sunday that the company was resorting to this rather desperate attempt to lock many of its British customers flocking to the company’s rival phone network.

T-Mobile expects Apple to stay put as the contract the Cupertino-based company has with O2 doesn’t contain a clause preventing other companies from importing SIM-free iPhones from other territories where they are legally on sale. (more…)

Apple scared of RIM? Unlikely

Pretty much ever since the day that the first iPhone was announced we’ve seen blog posts, news and magazine articles, and television reports questioning whether the BlackBerry would be able to survive once the Apple machine got wheels rolling.  I think it is safe to say that Research in Motion and the BlackBerry have fared pretty well and have even exceed expectations.
I, however, want to ask a question from the other side of things.  Should Apple be concerned about RIM? With the onslaught of multiple new BlackBerry devices on pretty much every carrier of consequence over a relatively short period of time, I say that Apple should be…
