LG 4G device gets bragging rights

lg_lte_2 The rest of the world is catching on rapidly but overall, Japan is still the world’s most advanced society mobile society. That being said, you’d assume that the first 4G (LTE) device to get an official certification from Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications must be coming from one of the many mobile companies over here, but it was South Korea’s LG who got the bragging rights [KR] for that today.

Just look at how proud the model in the picture is holding said certification in her hands. The Korean company will sell not a handset but a 4G-compatible data modem, the LD100, in Japan. Japan’s biggest mobile carrier NTT Docomo is ready to distribute the device in its home market (Docomo said just in November 2009 it will kick off 4G operations in Japan in December this year).Docomo (and other Japanese carriers) have been conducting 4G field tests in Japan for quite some time now, and you can expect the data modem to be among the first 4G devices available later this year.

LG tell us that the new handset comes with big surprises, the main one being its huge screen. The LG Chocolate BL40 is the fourth handset from the Black Label Series, we mentioned about the screen being large, it is in fact 4-inches wide and is full HD Screen. (more…)

Samsung, LG Rivalry to Heat Trade Fair

Samsung Electronics is expecting to reveal a series of “green” products in the IFA trade show in Berlin, including a washing machine, left, that needs just half the power of conventional models for heating water. Its rival, LG Electronics, is trying to steal the show by revealing a 15-inch active-matrix organic LED (AMOLED) display television.

The Samsung Electronics-LG Electronics rivalry is one of the oldest and fiercest rivalries in South Korea’s business sector. The latest battlefield between the two electronics giants will be Berlin, where they will compete to look better under the limelight in Europe’s largest consumer electronics exhibition.

The Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA), scheduled for Sept. 4-9 at the German capital, rivals the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) of Las Vegas as the industry’s biggest annual trade fair. Samsung and LG lead a pack of 40 Korean companies who have booked their booths for the Berlin conference. (more…)
